Satellite Image - Lena Delta River Wildlife Reserve, Russia
The Lena River, Russia empties into the Arctic Ocean and forms a delta 400 km wide, and with an area greater than 10,000 km square. The delta is frozen tundra for about 7 months of the year, but spring warming transforms the region into a lush wetland. Part of the area is protected as part of the Lena Delta Wildlife Reserve.
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
~George Gordon, Lord Byron, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage
